Fred Janson
Dear Peter,
I am the oldest son of Dorothy and Helge born shortly before the war.
My brother Hank and spent the war years in Manilla with our parents, although we both were to young to fully realize what was going on.
I heard them often speak of your dad. My father told of the japanese conducting a sting operation with a Phillipino operative who came to the gate of our house and said “Chick Parsons is at the city gates and wants to see you”. My father denied knowing him only to hear a few days
later of a number of their mutual friends who had been picked up and taken of the infamous prison, never to heard of again. What great menthey were.
Mom was a student at Brent school (Dorothy Burgers) and we were interned there for a short period of time after the Japanese invasion.
What a pleasure it is to hear of and from someone so closely
connected to my parents and that time in history. I only wish Mom and Pop were still around to participate.
Thank so very much, I will certainly look forward to seeing the DVD and sharing it with my children and grandchildren.
Fred (Janne)
Dear Fred,
If you are a son of Helge and Dorothy, I am indeed honored by your
email request. However, no son of them need ever pay for a DVD about
my dad. So if you have sent the check already, well, it is beyond my
reach to stop its being deposited–and accept my thanks for it. If
you’ve not sent it, don’t.
We will send you a DVD of Secret War in The Pacific on Monday to the
address in your email, and with great pleasure. It is coming to you
from Baguio, Philippines, and will take about a week. Would appreciate
your comments when you see it.
The work Helge and Dorothy did in Manila during the hard times of the
Occupation is chronicled in many different places. And the assistance
they gave to our family enabled us to leave Manila in June of
1942–this is chronicled in the hearts of all Parsons family members.
I hope I am not just babbling here to an unrelated Janson! If so,
please accept my apologies.
Best wishes, and thanks for your interest,
Peter
Dear Mr. Parsons,
Upon speaking to my brother Tom today Iearned that you have produced a
DVD about your father Chick and what he did in the Philippines during
the war. My father and mother so often spoke of your Dad, and it was
exciting to hear what you have done, I believe he is also mentioned
in a book by gladys Savary “Outside the Walls”. I have also read “Chick
Parsons America’s master spy in the Philippines” by Carlos Quirino.
Would you please send me copy of your DVD. I am sending a check to you
to cover the costs.
Thanks for your cooperation.
Sincerely
Fred & Bev Janson
